Posted on Wednesday, May 3 2006
Hot on the heels of an acclaimed show with US rockers, Yellowcard, at Sydney’s Luna Park’s Big Top Arena, Avalon Drive are excited to announce their national Australian tour to kick off in June in support of the band’s brand new EP due for release on June 17.

Titled ‘The City Of Burnt Out Lights’, the new EP features nine brand new tracks including the hot new single ‘Get Up’, which is set to impact at radio on May 22.

‘Get Up’ is a “catchy, mood changing melodic rock/pop song with ambient keys and string sections,” describes, drummer, Shane Holmes of the new single.

“It represents getting off your backside and getting out of what ever scene you’re surrounded by, It means driving down the highway and rocking out with your friends to a song you all love, Jovi style,” adds singer Damion Page.

“This is the record I’ve always wanted to write…all the hard work was worthwhile” says bassman, Ryan Kennedy of the EP in it’s entirety. When asked what can be expected from the new EP vocalist Damion Page said “it's definitely a new found energy for Avalon Drive, its a whole lotta rock yet melodic as well”.

In support of the EP, Avalon Drive will be taking their show live on the road for their biggest national tour yet.

“We love to play live I think the five of us were born to play our music loud and to hundreds of people. The shows are crazy, there is never a moment where any of us stand still”, incentive enough from BJ, the man on the keys. “Bring your mum, she'll love us” jokes Damion.

Avalon Drive has no doubt made their impact on the Australian Music scene since their debut self-titled EP release in 2005 being called “the most promising rock act on the Australian scene” by Beat Magazine and “hot rock property” by Rave Magazine.

Having come together in early 2005 under the guise of Avalon Drive, the band has built an impressive fan base, whilst also playing high energy live shows and festivals carving their place in the Australian rock scene.

Avalon Drive has also been invited to play as support act to international artists including Anberlin (USA), Crowned King (Canada), Rufio (USA) and most recently Yellowcard (USA) and Matchbook Romance (USA).

In March 2006, Avalon Drive were invited to join US rockers, Yellowcard, on their Australian tour playing their first ever performance in Sydney at Luna Park’s Big Top to a sold out crowd of 3000 people. The response to Avalon Drive so crazy that the band had to cut short their set halfway through their second song due to the crowd barrier breaking also forcing Houston Calls to cancel their set at the show. Yellowcard frontman, Ryan Key had to appear on stage to calm the crowd down telling fans that “you rocked out so hard for the opening band you broke the barrier”. The response so crazy that the band were immediately offered the Australian support for US band, Houston Calls for their headline show two nights later at the Gaelic Club in Sydney.

‘The City Of Burnt Out Lights’ EP is set for retail release June 17 2006.
